With Panda, Penguin and all the other Google updates, SEO has changed over the years. What used to work doesn’t anymore.

So, how do you know what you should be avoiding and what you should be doing now? Well, I’ve created an infographic that breaks down the old and the new in SEO and explains how you need to adjust your SEO strategy today.

Old SEO New SEO
Singular keyword and page focused. Focus more on how people engage with a particular brand, product or service.
Ranking focused. ROI focused.
Focused on singular keywords. Focus on keyword intent and search user needs; Focus on long tail searches.
Create content for search engine. Create content to provide real value to the audience.
No regard to content quality or relevance. Focused on the audience it will attract.
Build spammy backlinks and it will work. Only quality backlinks will work. Most quality backlinks can be built with relationship building.

The biggest thing that has changed over the years is content marketing. If you look at the graph above, you’ll notice that 88% of the companies that use SEO integrate content marketing into their strategy.
